What a weekend! OBC @OttawaCC!

Ottawa Browncoats Crew were so pleased to be able to join with Tom { also of our Gold Sponsor, Darner Media} and Greg of Scream All You Want at table 913 at Ottawa’s first ComicCon.

With all of our crew members being super busy, we did not have the time to really put a lot of call outs out, get a poster for the booth, or really do much more than order the 2012 Bickets { Thanks to TAV Creations} and organize some last minute quarter page flyers { Thanks Don McMillan and TAV Creations}, and get some quick feedback from the main team to see who could be there to help man the booth.

Linda, Tom, Lynn and Gailene were all most helpful in being present at the booth to help sell 2012 Bickets and collect donations for 2011 collector buttons.

And last minute in the line-ups for Adam Baldwin, the amazing Chrissy and her mom and son friends and newly birthday’d Lindsay and her friend stepped up with Lynn and Linda in handing out our flyers and promoting the event to everyone they could!

Thanks so much!!

How did we do?

55 Bickets pre-sold for September’s Ottawa Serenity Charity Screening!
and $65 in donations from folks taking some of 2011 remaining buttons off our hands!

THANK YOU OTTAWA BROWNCOATS COMMUNITY – you rock!

Over the next short while, we will get our sponsorship opportunities fleshed out a bit more, and updates made to the Jayne Hat Brigade info for 2012, along with the 2012 Local Film Makers Showcase. Exciting stuff folks!!

Look who we met at Ottawa ComicCon!

And thanks to Lynn, our new Co-Chair, this adorable Jayne Monkey will be up for auction on September 30, along with so many more FABULOUS items!

Will there be a 2012 Ottawa Serenity Charity Screening?

Happy 2012 Ottawa Browncoats!
Okay – it’s already nearly the end of February, so the new year has well begun, and the question floating around the ether is:
Will there be a 2012 Ottawa Serenity Charity Screening?
It’s up to you!
As “chair” of last year’s organizing crew, I was honoured to work with those amazing folks, and together we put on a great fundraising and community welcoming event!

Alas, yes, I said alas, I find my schedule is too full this year to resume the position of chair, and while I still plan to be involved as a sponsor, we need some fresh blood to step up and join in the organizing adventures if there is to be a 2012 Serenity charity event!

What can you do?
1 – email info@ottawabrowncoats.ca and let us know that you are willing to volunteer some serious time and effort to making this happen.

The plan will be to set a date in March to hold a volunteer/Organizing Crew meeting, see who can do what and get the ball rolling.  Even if you are only able to participate in certain areas, new ideas and mainly hard workers are so welcome!

Tracey
2011 “Chair” of the OSCS Organizing Crew

Now What?

After an amazing event, everyone needs to take time to get back to regular life.  But there is always that feeling of what can we do now?

Some folks have already commented that they will be up for helping for future OBC events and that’s fabulous! In the meantime, there are some great events already taking place in Ottawa and area that you can be a part of, attend and support!

And maybe you are part of an event that is coming up and would like to promote it.

Check out our Upcoming Local Events and support some other amazing volunteer crews in Ottawa!  Or regular folk trying to earn a living too!

And feel welcome to add your event info in the comments, and include a website or contact info so that folks can find out more!

Update on October 2, 2011 OSCS!

Jayne Hat Brigade

You can see our thanks to the Artisans here, and our gratitude at your efforts cannot be expressed enough! Thanks again for the donations of time and energy and supplies to produce amazing items that were totally loved by the attendees!

Local Film Makers

For the first time ever, we invited folks to submit their trailers and have them shown up on the big screen!  What a cool idea, right?!  That’s how brainstorming at our volunteer meetings works – loads of ideas bounce around and then get honed to a fun concept!  We’ll have a bit more proper thanks to our local Film Makers up soon, and we hope you’ll support independent folk all year round!

Admin Crew

Thanks again to the Admin Crew for the 2011 for all of their hard work: Click on their names to find out more about each person via their twitter page or facebook presence.  As titular Chair of the crew, I was honoured to be working with a folks I have worked with before for other events alongside new blood who brought such enthusiasm and joy to the event that it really bumped things up a notch!  I look forward to stepping back a bit for next year’s event, still planning to be there, helping as needed!

“Chair”, 2011 OSCS Crew

Wow – what a day!

This is the morning after, and I am but one of the crew who was so pleased to see the number of folks who were able to join us yesterday.

This post will be updated as we generate a few more numbers and get a few more counts confirmed, but the Browncoats of Ottawa gave over $2000 in support through Bickets /Auctions/ Chances to win great prize packs and general donations!

SHINY! doesn’t even begin to express our gratitude!

Once we get the final tally, we’ll be able to post how much we will be able to donate to iSisters and Equality Now, keeping you up to date as quick as we can!

Keep an eye out here in the posts – or on the Facebook community page – or even our twitter feed for call outs for volunteer admin crew for the next one – sometime in the future!

Thanks again!

Tracey, Chair of the 2011 OSCS

PS. Congratulations to Andrea Knight, the winner of the Yarns, Etc. Gift Certificate for the participants in the Jayne Hat Brigade!  All of the donations were amazing and we appreciate the generous spirit of these artisans!
